We’ve only recently welcomed the Mi Mix 2 and Xiaomi is planning its successor. The Mi Mix 3 is likely still a long way off, but we have had our first glimpse of what the rear may look like.
The early sighting from Concept Leaks may be no more than one of many prototypes, but if it sees the light of day we could see a Mi Mix 3 with a vertical dual-camera at the rear and a central fingerprint scanner (not an under-glass design, as is rumoured to feature on the upcoming Galaxy S9). This updated design also features more rounded corners than previously.
There is very little else to go on at the moment, but as a flagship device we would expect the Mi Mix 3 to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB storage. The screen will, as in the Mi Mix 2, likely be a 5.99in 18:9 panel.
We’ve yet to see Xiaomi use anything higher in resolution than full-HD, and neither has it manufactured any phones that are waterproof or support wireless charging – all areas in which the spec could be improved.
As a flagship device we doubt the Mi Mix 3 will be running Android One like the recent Mi A1, so the Mi Mix 3 will almost certainly come with MIUI 9 preinstalled. For western users that means Google services will need to be installed after purchase.
When is the Mi Mix 3 release date?
The original Mi Mix was announced in December 2016, with the Mi Mix 2 appearing almost a full year later in October 2017. We wouldn’t expect to see a Mi Mix 3 until October 2018.
When it does arrive you won’t be able to buy it direct from Xiaomi in the UK, though sites such as GearBest and Geekbuying will be able to ship one over.
