It’s been a long time coming but the OnePlus 6 has finally been unveiled.
In a room packed with journalists and 1,000 lucky fans, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, revealed the firm’s new flagship to the world.
And what a phone this is.
The OnePlus 6 is the most feature-packed smartphone OnePlus has ever made and finally brings an all-screen design to the brand for the very first time.
This stunning 6.28-inch Full Optic AMOLED 19:9 display covers almost the entire front of the phone with only a small notch at the top of the device.
That means you get a much bigger viewing area in a device that’s physically smaller in your hand.
Along with this very nice display there’s plenty of other features which make this a device a true flagship killer.
OnePlus has opted for an all-glass case made from Gorilla Glass 5 which adds plenty of style to the phone and the firm has announced there will be three styles to choose from including Mirror Black, Midnight Black and Silk White.
For the Mirror Black and Midnight Black variants, OnePlus embedded a thin layer of film underneath the glass to create a sense of depth as light and shadow move on the device.
The limited-edition Silk White uses pearl powder to create a subtle shimmering effect.
As well as these new shiny and matt designs, on the rear of the phone you’ll find a new dual-lens camera which has plenty of tricks up its sleeve including the ability to add DSLR-style depth of field to photos and a 2X optical zoom.
This setup includes a 16-megapixel main camera supported by a 20-megapixel secondary camera, with OnePlus boasting better low light images and improved High Dynamic Range.
This camera includes optical image stabilisation and can also record footage in full 4K quality – plus there’s the usual slow motion mode.
Tucked neatly below this rear snapper is a fingerprint scanner, although you might not need it considering the OnePlus 6 now includes facial recognition.
Like the iPhone X, the new OnePlus can be unlocked just by glancing at the front-facing camera.
And that’s not all this snapper can do as OnePlus has added some clever software which now brings bokeh effects to your selfies.
Heading inside, the OnePlus 6 is almost as impressive as what’s on the outside with this new phone offering the ultimate power via Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor.
This chip not only makes this device 30 per cent faster than its predecessor but also also much more efficient.
And that’s good news as we are guessing that giant display will be desperate to drain the power from the 3,300mAh battery.
OnePlus is saying that despite the larger screen the OnePlus 6 should have similar battery life to the OnePlus 5 – we’ll wait and see if that’s true.
Like all OnePlus phones you can boost things via Dash charging with the phone going from flat to 60 per cent in around 30 minutes.
Other features that are worth noting include a headphone port and improved water resistance – although the OnePlus 6 hasn’t got an IP68 rating.
As we mentioned earlier the OnePlus 6 comes in three colours which include Mirror Black, Midnight and White with prices starting from a very reasonable £469.
“With the OnePlus 6, we challenged ourselves to deliver an external design as smooth and elegant as the work we’ve done inside the device,” said OnePlus Founder and CEO Pete Lau.
“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, and we hope our users are too.”
This device will be on sale from May 22 at OnePlus.com
