Devolver Digital has revealed it is working on a SNES game, with all profits going to the mental health charity Take This.
‘Fork Parker’s Crunch Out’ is a game starring Devolver Digital’s fictional CFO Fork Parker, where players take “a ragtag group of game developers from a downtrodden garage studio to a high-rise mega-corporation”
Playing as Parker, players will use “questionable motivation tactics” such as “coffee, discipline and shock treatment” to ensure employees remain on schedule.
The game is being created in an effort to raise awareness about a prescient issue in the game development community commonly known as ‘Crunch’ or ‘Crunch Time’, where developers may be made to work overtime to meet production deadlines, much to their own detriment.
Devolver will be donating 100% of the profit from Fork Parker’s Crunch Out to Take This, a charity that spreads awareness and fights the stigma around mental health.
Take This informs institutions in the games industry on how to help employees and their families suffering from emotional issues and ultimately aims to create positive working environments.
You can pre-order the game on the Megacat Studios website, where a limited edition cartridge shaped like an office desktop is available, complete with LED monitor.
