Bayonetta 3 is in development exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, confirmed by Platinum Games at The Game Awards 2017. The announcement follows an interview with Platinum producer Atsushi Inaba earlier in 2017 where he was quoted saying “I would like to make Bayonetta 3. We’re talking within the company even now about what to do,”.

Despite the announcement that Bayonetta 3 is in development, details are still relatively scarce. Will the game feature a new protagonist? Will it be one of the best Nintendo Switch games? Will it be available for other platforms? It’s certainly one of the most anticipated games of 2018, that’s for sure.

Here’s everything we know about Bayonetta 3 so far, including release date rumours, platforms and gameplay news.

Bayonetta 3 release date and pricing rumours

So, when will Bayonetta 3 make its highly-anticipated appearance on the Nintendo Switch? Unfortunately, though the game has been confirmed as in development, Platinum Games is yet to announce a solid release date, or even a broad release window.

The lack of a release window at the announcement suggests, to us at least, that Bayonetta 3 may not even make an appearance in 2018. The firm is also working on bringing the existing Bayonetta 1 and 2 games to the Nintendo Switch in early 2018, after all. Could we be waiting until 2019 until the game is released? Only time will tell.

Of course, it’s too early to discuss pricing of the game, but as soon as pre-orders go live we’ll list the best UK deals right here.

Will Bayonetta 3 be available on other platforms?

With the announcement that Beyonetta 3 is in development, PC and console fans have a single question for the developers: will it be coming to PC, Xbox One and PS4? Sadly, the answer is no.

As confirmed by Platinum Games in the reveal trailer at The Game Awards 2017, the upcoming Bayonetta 3 is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, meaning you’ll have to get your hands on Nintendo’s handheld console to play it. The use of the term ‘exclusively’ in the teaser trailer suggests to us that this isn’t a timed exclusive like Rise of the Tomb Raider either. If you want it, you’ve got to get a Switch.

Bayonetta 3 gameplay news

While it’s early days in Bayonetta 3’s development, there are already rumours floating around the internet about what we can expect. The rumours come from the reveal trailer, which can be seen at the top of this page, and hints about the game buried within.

First of all, Bayonetta 3 could actually be a sequel that takes place before the events of Bayonetta 2. Why? It’s all because of Bayonetta’s haircut in the new trailer. In the trailer, Bayonetta can be spotted with a long hairdo similar to that sported in the first Bayonetta game. For those unaware, Bayonetta’s was cut short for the second game, making it easier to recognise next to the first game on shop shelves.

It’s not the strongest argument, admittedly, as it could be easy for Bayonetta to regrow her hair. She can, after all, use her hair as a bodysuit and weapon, both of which require her hair length to change.

A spectral creature could also play a big part in the upcoming game, as Bayonetta is seen terrified at the end of the teaser trailer as she spots a ghost-like figure lurking in the distance. The creature, though we don’t get a good look at it, appears to be on fire and disappears with the wind as Bayonetta collapses.

As mentioned above, it’s early days yet and the features may change before the game is released. We’ll be sure to add the latest Bayonetta 3 news as soon we receive it, so make sure you check back soon for the latest news.
